Chaos erupts at Accra High Court as EOCO attempts to arrest Salomey Baffoe’s lawyer (Video)

Chaos erupted at the Accra High Court on Wednesday as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) attempted to arrest the lawyer for Salomey Baffoe, who is facing charges related to alleged false news publication. The lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, was invited by the EOCO, but the exact reason remains unclear. A video showed a heated exchange between Awuah and an EOCO official, who blocked his car.

Awuah, visibly furious, pushed the woman aside to retrieve his vehicle and left. The bail application for Ms Baffoe, who was charged with abetting crime in connection with the "Ghana Jollof" TikTok account, was adjourned to September 24 after the prosecution requested more time to respond. The defense argued that the matter concerned Ms Baffoe's liberty and should be treated urgently.

The court directed the prosecution to file and serve its response by 9:00 a.m. before the next hearing. This unexpected EOCO involvement has caused confusion at the court, with details of the invitation still being established. Awuah, also a Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has been the defense team's lead counsel for Ms Baffoe since her arrest and has publicly disputed aspects of the case.

Ms Baffoe pleaded not guilty to the charge of abetment of crime, with police alleging she helped Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, identified as the "Ghana Jollof" account operator, in spreading online content and recruiting others to circulate it. The defense has rejected these allegations.
