Canada defender Cornelius hospitalized after suffering injury in training

Defender Derek Cornelius of the Canadian national soccer team has been hospitalized after sustaining an injury during training on Wednesday. Cornelius, a 28-year-old left back who plays for Olympique de Marseille, suffered a non-contact lower body injury. The Canadian Soccer Organization is providing medical support to Cornelius and will issue further updates as deemed necessary.

This incident occurs following the earlier hospitalization of teammate Jeevan Badwal, a midfielder, who was taken back to Vancouver due to a hamstring injury sustained while playing for the Whitecaps on Saturday. Cornelius and Badwal were part of the squad preparing for international friendlies against Chile in Toronto on September 26, Peru in Montreal on October 3, and the United States in St. Paul, Minn. on October 6.

These friendly matches mark the first competitive games for Canada since their successful World Cup campaign this summer.
