Canada, Croatia call for two-state solution, Angola condemns settler expansion

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, joined by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and Angolan President Joao Lourenco, urged world leaders to adopt a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during a UN General Assembly session. Together, they condemned the "genocide against defenceless populations" in Palestine and emphasized the need for international outrage against the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Carney stated that Canada's commitment to a two-state solution has been "longstanding and resolute." He added that Canada participated in the UN gathering alongside the United Kingdom, France, and Saudi Arabia to explore ways to establish conditions for a lasting peace where Israelis and Palestinians could coexist in safety and dignity.

Lourenco denounced the "inhumane actions against civilians, including the elderly, women, children, bedridden patients, health professionals, journalists, and humanitarian workers" in Palestine. He emphasized that the "expansion of Israeli settlements in the West Bank" was a source of international condemnation due to its impact on the displaced Palestinians' pursuit of basic necessities like water, food, and medicine.

Plenkovic echoed the sentiments of his fellow leaders, calling for the protection of civilians and unimpeded humanitarian access in Palestine. He stressed that a credible political future for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict required the implementation of a negotiated two-state solution, ultimately enabling Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security.
