Braves’ star Acuña day-to-day after fouling ball off left leg

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. experienced a day-to-day injury after being hit by a foul ball during a game against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. The incident occurred in the third inning when Acuña swung at a 3-1 pitch from Brandon Williamson, resulting in the ball striking his left leg just above a protective guard.

Acuña took a significant swing, sending the ball off his left shin, causing him to drop to the ground with a grimace and immediately hobble away from the batter's box. He was immediately attended to by the Braves' trainer and manager Walt Weiss. X-rays did not reveal any fractures, and Acuña was listed as day-to-day with a contusion.

This injury comes as Atlanta prepares to enter the playoffs just a week later, having clinched their seventh NL East title in the past nine years. Acuña, a 2023 NL MVP, was in a scoring streak with seven home runs in his last 18 games, including a grand slam in a sweep of the Astros.
