Board of Peace proposes six-month $2.4bn plan for Gaza reconstruction

The US-backed Board of Peace unveiled a $2.45 billion plan on Wednesday to begin rebuilding Gaza and restoring essential services, amid challenges to President Donald Trump's ceasefire initiative. The six-month blueprint outlines 66 projects, focusing on infrastructure, education, and healthcare. Jared Kushner, executive board member, highlighted the transformation from an empty platform to a framework enabling Gaza's people to improve their livelihoods.

The initiative aims for a demilitarised Gaza under civilian governance, with international support crucial for financing and momentum. The next step involves transitioning from planning to implementation, as talks with Israel continue amidst election campaign difficulties. Ali Shaath, chief commissioner of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, assured that reconstruction would cover the entire territory, moving from sector to sector, once Hamas relinquishes governance and Israeli forces withdraw.
