Bandar Utama teen's infatuation with schoolgirl developed into hatred, intent to kill her

In August 2024, a 15-year-old boy developed a year-long infatuation with a 16-year-old girl at their school, according to the grounds of judgment from a High Court. This infatuation escalated into hatred and a plan to kill her by October of the same year. The boy began physically observing and following her around school, and created social media accounts to monitor her online presence.

After watching an online crime video, his infatuation turned into envy, anger, and eventually hatred, leading him to desire her death. He also started experiencing auditory hallucinations, believing he was commanded to kill the girl. The boy began to identify with a god-like figure and believed he had the right to eliminate those he considered unworthy, a condition known as grandiose delusions.

Around this time, he purchased a Death Note Notebook, where he listed four names, including the girl's, and bought three combat knives from an online store. For about two weeks before the incident, he carried these knives daily to school. Before the attack, he had a plan to assault the school and chose the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting as his target date.

On October 3, he attacked two classmates, believing they were trying to harm him. He was suspended from school and spent a week at home plotting his attack. On October 14, armed with knives, the boy entered the girls' restroom, confronted the girl, and stabbed her multiple times, stopping only when he was overwhelmed by the smell of blood.

He then left the restroom and disposed of his weapons, except for one, before being disarmed by his brother. Throughout the ordeal, he claimed to hear a commanding voice directing his actions and felt dissociated, perceiving the girl as powerless and unable to resist. The High Court judge acknowledged that the boy had a longstanding psychotic illness that worsened over several years, marking the incident as an act of psychosis, with delusions targeting the girl and a commanding hallucinated voice instructing him to kill her.
