Bafana coach Mosimane confident ahead of Guinea clash

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane is confident ahead of their upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea. Mosimane stated that Bafana Bafana has done its research and knows what to expect from the West African team. Although Guinea, like most West African teams, features players who compete in top European leagues, Mosimane believes that Bafana Bafana possesses the necessary quality to secure a victory at the Orlando Stadium.

The coach highlighted the influence of the Orlando Pirates' league title win and the Mamelodi Sundowns players, who compete at the highest level, which will give Bafana the edge. Fans expect high expectations for the team as they begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Bafana Bafana, currently ranked 54th, will start with a Group D clash against Guinea, ranked 81st, in Soweto.

Despite Guinea being lower-ranked than Bafana Bafana, the West Africans have proven challenging in their previous three meetings, with South Africans winning once and losing another match. However, Mosimane remains confident, stating that the experienced players in his team will overcome the challenges posed by Guinea. "Guinea, they have a top striker who plays for Borussia Dortmund, he's a top striker, top number nine big boy so we have to make sure that we deal with his aerial strength."

Although several West African teams have players in top European leagues, Mosimane remains unfazed. He believes that the experience his players possess will result in a positive outcome on Saturday. "Centre back – the other one is in Poland. He's playing in Girona. So, you know those West African teams. But if our Sundowns and Pirates players could show that they are Champions, I think it's encouraging."

Recently, Pirates winger Tshepang Moremi was called up to the Bafana Bafana squad to replace the injured Lebohang Maboe.
