Arc Raiders Frozen Trail Is Officially the Game's Biggest-Ever Update, And It Looks Epic

The Arc Raiders Frozen Trail update is a notable expansion for the popular extraction shooter, exceeding expectations with its array of new features. North of the Rust Belt, Pendola Pass introduces a sprawling snowy mountain region enveloped by an immense Emperor corpse, marking the developer's most ambitious map yet with a distinctive "Flash Freeze" condition.

The update unveils three new ARC types: the Frigate, a massive airborne carrier that poses a formidable challenge for experienced Raiders; the Bully, a swift, four-legged belligerent employing hit-and-run tactics; and the Skulker, a small, ground-level nuisance that takes potshots at players. Additionally, stationary turrets known as Hydra can simultaneously target three players.

Personal outposts, where players can construct homes with decor, furniture, trinkets, and upgrade benches, are introduced outside of Speranza. Meanwhile, weapon amplification grants guns unique abilities through a research bench, with fifteen guns offering amplifications upon launch. Fifteen guns receive initial amplifications, including the Stiletto, a light ammo battle rifle for early game play, and the Bantum, a rapid-fire revolver.

The skill tree has been revamped to be more impactful, compelling players to deliberate on their playstyle. Not every skill is equally accessible to all raiders. Gun skins, applied via stencils, allow for customization; however, losing a gun necessitates reapplying the stencil. Blueprints for these skins can be found or unlocked through a new research station.

Additionally, gadgets such as a grapple hook, banjo, and camera tool aim to infuse a nonviolent flair into the gaming experience. The comprehensive 2.0 patch signifies a significant overhaul of nearly every aspect of Arc Raiders, incorporating the new map, weapons, ARC enemies, and personal outposts. The delayed but substantial update schedule is anticipated to better suit casual players like the author, who appreciates the more substantial updates over frequent, minor changes. Frozen Trail is slated to be released on October 8 as a free update.
