An illness forced this podcaster to confront a major weakness: 'Everything felt fragile'

Ryan Peterman, the host of The Peterman Pod, found himself forced to confront a major weakness when he became ill. In a YouTube video, he explained how a bout of flu-like symptoms forced him to take a break from his new independent career as a tech podcaster. Peterman, a former Meta engineer, had given himself six months of savings to give his podcast a chance.

However, four months in, the show had not made any money. When he fell ill, he realized that everything felt fragile. He had to reassess what was not working and simplify his recording process. He began taking sponsors more seriously and now produces two episodes a week. Cursor and WorkOS later signed on as sponsors. Nine months after leaving Meta, Peterman's podcast now sustains itself, with over 109,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel.
