Alonso Outburst: F1 Is the Only Motorsport Where Drivers Must ‘Drive Slow to Go Fast’

Fernando Alonso believes Formula 1 is the only motorsport where drivers are required to "drive slow to go fast." This sentiment emerged during his comments following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Despite the current regulations, he stated that this approach remains unchanged from previous races in Australia, Barcelona, or Madrid. Alonso contends that certain mega tracks have been "killed" due to these regulations, yet acknowledges that some races have been enjoyable.

He argues that drivers transitioning from feeder series may find the current F1 experience absurd compared to other championships where they would progress more quickly. Alonso suggested that one potential solution is to reduce the peak power of the battery, as this could lead to a more balanced speed throughout the race. However, he refrained from specifying further changes.

Alonso remains committed to Formula 1, both as a racer and in a non-driver capacity, and expressed agreement with F1 chief Stefano Domenicali that the sport is in a good commercial position. He also mentioned his ongoing involvement in various motorsports, including karting and rally cars, to continue learning and improving his driving skills.
