AI superpower ambitions take centre stage as Trump and Xi meet

However, China's focus on open weight models and its ability to access electricity at a lower cost gives it an edge in energy efficiency. Chinese AI developers have shown remarkable innovation, closing the gap with U.S. companies through techniques like distillation, which enables models to learn from more advanced platforms.

The U.S. and China have different approaches to AI safety concerns, with the U.S. prioritizing innovation and reducing regulation, while China focuses on preventing potential misuse of the technology and cyber war. Despite the fierce competition, both countries' governments emphasize extensive consultation and joint contribution for shared benefits.
