Ahmedabad Crime Branch Recovers Ambergris Worth ₹1.05 Crore, 3 Held In Wildlife Trade Case

In a wildlife trade case, the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch of Gujarat Police has arrested three individuals and recovered 1.051 kg of ambergris worth approximately Rs 1.05 crore. The seizure occurred in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad, following information received by the Crime Branch that three persons were moving around the region with whale vomit, known as ambergris, for the purpose of selling and transportation.

The operation is linked to the Centre's Operation Thunder-2026, a global initiative targeting wildlife and forest-related offenses, illegal trade in fauna and flora. The Ahmedabad branch had established specialized teams to combat illegal wildlife trade and activities that could harm the environment.

The arrested suspects are Maheshbhai Rathod, 46, Kiran alias Bhurabhai Bharwad, 25, and Karan Dininath God, 27. All three were from different regions in Gujarat and were allegedly engaged in the sale and transportation of ambergris. The seized material is currently under police custody, and a further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of its possession, transportation, and intended sale.

The police emphasized that the action was part of their efforts to protect terrestrial and marine wildlife and to take action against illegal wildlife trade and transportation. The investigation into the case and activities of the arrested persons will continue.
