Access Bank, Visa launch ‘Visa Accept’ in Ghana

Visa and Access Bank Ghana have launched Visa Accept, a solution designed to enable small and micro merchants across Ghana to accept contactless card payments using their smartphones. This innovative service eliminates the need for expensive point-of-sale (POS) hardware, making digital payments more accessible for the country's smallest businesses.

Visa Accept simplifies the payment process for consumers, who can settle transactions using contactless cards, mobile wallets, QR codes, or secure payment links directly through the Access Bank mobile banking app. The funds are transferred to the merchant's existing bank account in near real-time, all while benefiting from Visa's robust security measures and consumer protections, including dispute resolution and refund support.

Fabrice Konan, Visa's Country Manager for Ghana, highlighted the growing demand for digital payments in Ghana, but also the ongoing challenges faced by smaller merchants in adopting this technology. He emphasized that Visa Accept addresses this issue by leveraging the smartphones that many merchants already own, making the transition to digital payments more affordable and straightforward.

Eugene Ocansey, Access Bank's Executive Director for Retail and SME Banking, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership, noting that it aligns with Access Bank's mission to help informal businesses transition into the formal economy. By providing a tool that makes transaction data visible, Visa Accept enables better understanding of each business's operations, ultimately making them more bankable to financial institutions.

Visa Accept is now accessible to eligible Access Bank Ghana customers nationwide, with enrollment available through the mobile app or by visiting an Access Bank branch for assistance.
