678 cases of ticketless travel detected in trains

Railway authorities in Southern India conducted a special ticket-checking drive on September 21 and 22, uncovering 678 cases of passengers travelling without valid tickets. The Ernakulam Squad led the effort, identifying the highest number of offenders with 285 cases. Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Nagercoil squads detected 138, 225, and 30 cases respectively. In total, railway authorities imposed a penalty of ₹5,08,005 on the ticketless travellers.

The comprehensive inspection encompassed both reserved and unreserved coaches, focusing on multiple key sections and trains within the Southern Railway Thiruvananthapuram Division. Railway Protection Force and General Railway Police personnel collaborated with the checking squad teams to ensure a thorough and coordinated operation. Such special drives are regularly conducted to deter ticketless travel and guarantee a smooth, ticketed journey for passengers.
