Ghana's Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has urged his players to elevate their standards as the team prepares to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The four-time African champions are set to face Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in their opening Group C qualifiers. Queiroz, reflecting on Ghana's recent setbacks, emphasized the significance of hard work in achieving the team's goals.
"Every squad selection, every training session and every match must contribute to building a better team," Queiroz stated, highlighting the need for continuous improvement. After failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco and experiencing group-stage exits in 2021 and 2023, Ghana aims to reclaim continental glory, having last won the AFCON in 1982.
The team, which recently returned from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, is preparing to depart for their first qualifier against Côte d'Ivoire on September 24.
