‘We’ll tear it down’: Lord Hanuman statue sparks US ro
A 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman, a revered Hindu deity, in Texas has sparked a religious and political controversy after a conservative YouTuber vowed to tear it down "when we win". Jesse Hughes, a MAGA activist, posted a photograph of the statue at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Temple along with the ominous statement on his X account. The Hindu American community, including US Army veteran Ruchir Bakshi, expressed outrage, calling the threat a "vandalism" against their faith.
The statue had already faced protests from Christian activists since its consecration in 2024. The controversy adds to growing tensions over immigration, race and religious identity in Texas as the country heads towards the midterm elections.
