Vikings’ Aaron Jones Comments on Expected Punishment for Bears Corner

The focus on Chicago Bears' star quarterback Caleb Williams and his injury has momentarily overshadowed another incident in the Week 2 divisional matchup. Specifically, cornerback Tyrique Stevenson's tackle that caused Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones' helmet to come off his face was barely noticed.

Jones, who managed to stay on his feet and finish the game with 23 carries for 105 yards, shared his thoughts with reporters following the match. He mentioned obtaining a bruise on his cheek but expressed surprise at the absence of a helmet-to-helmet collision. Jones emphasized his ability to push through the incident, stating, "I got a little scar on my face.

I'm surprised there was no helmet-to-helmet. But you just gotta pop up and get your helmet back and get ready to play the next play. So my pop-up game was strong. It didn't affect me."

Although the hit did not result in a penalty during the game, Stevenson is anticipated to be fined for his actions. According to the NFL's list of Fines and Appeals, the fine for a first offense of impermissible use of the helmet/launching is $23,882, while a second offense carries a fine of $47,762. Stevenson is currently managing a hamstring injury from the Vikings game, and this incident could possibly result in his temporary absence and the imposition of a substantial fine.

Tyrique Stevenson is in his final year of his rookie deal, which raises the question of whether the Bears should re-sign him during the offseason. According to Pro Football Focus, Stevenson has missed four tackles, allowed five receptions, and has an overall passer rating of 137.5. As such, it seems likely that the Bears will seek to restructure his contract or explore alternatives during the offseason.

Should the Bears decide to move on from Stevenson after the season, they will have to address the concerns of the cornerback room. The room is currently facing challenges due to the departure of Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson's underwhelming performance, with Malik Muhammad, a rookie cornerback, stepping up with an interception and a limited passer rating of 27.5. Head coach Ben Johnson praised Muhammad's performance, highlighting his fearless approach and strong coverage skills.

The Bears' defensive struggles have prompted speculation about significant changes in the next season. As such, many players may find themselves seeking a new team in 2027. For now, Chicago's attention remains focused on their upcoming match against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football on September 28th.
