Video Of Talented Skaters With Disabilities Competing In Skateboarding Contest Goes Viral

A video showcasing adaptive skateboarding, titled Wheels for Wheels FrumpFest, has gained widespread attention on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. The 6 million views and the hundreds of thousands of likes garnered within a week indicate the video’s popularity. Anthony Ferraro, a blind Paralympic athlete and content creator, documented the event, participating in the contest himself.

The contest, held in New Milford, Connecticut, on September 12th, was a joint effort between Be Easy, nonprofit Wheels for Wheels, and adaptive skateboard company One Legacy Skateboards. The contest aimed to raise funds for para-athletes. The video begins with contestants humorously revealing their disabilities, with Ferraro being one of them, followed by contestants with one leg, autism, missing hands and feet, and more.

Each contestant then takes turns skateboarding, displaying impressive tricks and skills in the skate park. Ferraro, in particular, uses a cane for assistance while performing his tricks. Other contestants, such as Oscar Loreto Jr., Ernie Ibarra, Andy Hernandez, Chris Gentry, Dalton Odom, and Harley Meagley, also showcase their abilities.

Ferraro playfully asks the camera, "Wait, what did they do?" and the contestants conclude with a chorus of "One Legacy!" Ferraro emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about disabled and blind skaters, stating that the FrumpFest contest is about unity and resilience in the face of challenges. He concludes by encouraging viewers to pursue their passions, irrespective of their disabilities, and to keep going, just like in skateboarding.
