Two Republican Senate candidates call for swift end to Iran war

Two Republican candidates in tight US Senate races called for a swift end to the war in Iran on Monday, signaling they are distancing themselves from President Donald Trump over the conflict. The candidates, Mike Rogers in Michigan and Ashley Hinson in Iowa, both previously backed Trump's authority to strike Iran but have now adopted a more dovish tone.

Hinson, a sitting member of the US House of Representatives, wrote on social media that Iowans are being "squeezed" and shouldn't have to "foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line" for the war in Iran. She called for measures such as suspending gasoline taxes, pausing diesel exports, and ending the war. Rogers, in a campaign ad posted on X, also said the war with Iran needs to end and end quickly, promising that when it does, energy costs will plummet.

However, Democrats argue that these calls for a swift end to the war are election-year repositioning by Republicans who previously supported Trump's handling of the conflict.
