Trump to address U.N. amid tensions with allies, war with Iran and Russia-Ukraine war

Two Republican Senate candidates from Michigan and Iowa have diverged from President Donald Trump's stance on the ongoing war in Iran, urging for an immediate end to the conflict. Mike Rogers, running against Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, and Ashley Hinson, opposing Josh Turek in Iowa, both shifted to a more dovish tone regarding Iran after previously backing Trump's authority to strike Tehran.

This change comes as both candidates seek to distance themselves from the president's handling of the conflict, which has resulted in record-high fuel prices, particularly diesel. Hinson, a sitting member of the US House of Representatives, called for suspending gasoline taxes and halting diesel exports, emphasizing that Americans are being burdened with the financial costs of the war.

Rogers, who had previously supported Trump's strikes, now argues that ending the war quickly would help lower energy costs for Michigan families. The remarks highlight the growing concern among vulnerable Republican candidates that the seven-month conflict may become a political liability ahead of the November midterms.
