Transcona councillor Wyatt confirms re-election bid, despite sexual assault charges

Transcona councillor Russ Wyatt has announced his intention to run for re-election, despite facing sexual assault charges. According to the Winnipeg Sun, Wyatt was charged with sexual assault twice since March and has consistently denied the allegations, with no conviction in court as yet.

In a statement to Global News, Wyatt expressed his determination, stating, "Time and time again, I have stood up to the powers that be and they would love to get rid of me. But I see the mess this city is in today." He emphasized the need for an independent voice at City Hall, claiming, "More than ever we need a truly independent voice at City Hall that will not cave into power and who will consistently stand up for Transcona and working people."

Wyatt confirmed his re-election bid after the deadline for candidates to register passed on Monday, although the registration details have not yet been updated on the city’s website. The confirmed candidates for the upcoming Transcona area in Winnipeg’s municipal election, scheduled for October 28, include former councillor Shawn Nason, along with Chris Giesbrecht, Lora Meseman, and Nathine Dagdick.
