Thor Explorations expands community investment through women empowerment, scholarship programmes

Thor Explorations Ltd, a Nigerian company, has expanded its community investment efforts by launching women empowerment initiatives and scholarship programmes. The 2026 Segilola Women Initiative Programme (SWIP) and the SROL Gold Scholarship Programme (SGSP) have been established to support women entrepreneurs and students in the company's host communities in Osun State.

Under SWIP, 96 beneficiaries from Iperindo, Odo-Ijesha, and Imogbara communities received equipment tailored to their businesses. This included freezers, sewing and stoning machines, digesters, multi-purpose grinders, gas burners, and cooler sets. The tools are intended to help entrepreneurs increase productivity, expand their businesses, and establish more stable income sources.

Additionally, three previous SWIP beneficiaries, one from each community, were upgraded with more advanced equipment. In Iperindo, a beneficiary received an industrial sewing machine, while another in Odo-Ijesha acquired a flour and maize grinder. In Imogbara, weaving and button-cover machines were added to a sewing business, enabling the beneficiary to expand her enterprise.

Since its inception in 2021, SWIP has assisted over 200 women, providing practical tools and equipment to promote financial independence and increased participation in the local economy. Adesuyi Titilope Elizabeth, a returning SWIP beneficiary, expressed her gratitude for the support, stating that the equipment will help her serve more customers and increase her income. She hopes to become an example to other women in the community.

In addition to the women empowerment programme, Thor Explorations awarded scholarships to 63 students in the host communities. The SROL Gold Scholarship Programme recognizes outstanding academic performance and supports students through secondary and tertiary education. Top-performing students received laptops and learning devices to facilitate digital learning and encourage continued academic excellence.

Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, Community Development and Stakeholder Manager at SROL, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, noting that they directly address community needs and contribute to long-term growth and self-reliance. The 2026 awards were presented on August 20 at the Iperindo Community New Town Hall. These initiatives are part of Thor Explorations' broader commitment to creating shared and lasting value in the communities surrounding its operations through investments in education, entrepreneurship, livelihoods, and skills development.
