Taylor Swift Announces New Single “Patient Zero”

Taylor Swift fans won't have to wait long for her next single, "Patient Zero." The pop sensation surprised her fans on Tuesday (Sept. 22) by announcing the upcoming release of her new song. The countdown to the announcement was posted to her website two hours prior to the news. She shared the artwork for the track on Instagram, featuring a striking image of her in a black dress gazing into the camera against a concrete wall.

Swift expressed her excitement, revealing that "Patient Zero" would be released on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!).

The brand new single is currently available for preorder on Swift's website, along with two alternative versions: an acoustic version and a piano version. Swift's distinctive engagement ring is showcased in the cover of the piano version. This release marks her first single since The Life of a Showgirl, which dominated the Billboard 200 charts for 12 weeks in October last year.

The album yielded two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles: "The Fate of Ophelia" and "Opalite." To further build anticipation, Swift engaged her fans with subtle hints on Instagram, such as swapping Os in her bio and lyrics with zeros. Additionally, she dropped Easter eggs during a Law & Order: SVU spoof at the 2026 Emmys, where she addressed the camera directly, saying: "Saccharide. Aries. From the Vineyard. North or South."
