Families of Malaysians still missing after Nepal's glacial flash floods are seeking answers from the government on Sunday regarding the fate of their loved ones. This comes after the departure of the Malaysian rescue team from the disaster zone on September 14. Subramaniam Murugaya, spokesman for Malaysia Solidarity: Families in Hope, informed that families have not received any updates on the search operation since the Malaysian team's departure.

The government comprises the Attorney-General's Chambers, National Registration Department, Social Welfare Department, National Disaster Management Agency, and National Security Council. Families desire clarification on the actions taken by the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) during the search for their missing relatives.

Additionally, they seek information on how Malaysia would handle the legal status of those still missing if Nepal legalizes their cases. This determination is crucial for families to move forward with rights such as inheritance, insurance claims, and compensation. Furthermore, the families wish to ask the government about a potential moratorium on loan repayments to alleviate financial pressure on households whose primary earners remain missing.

The uncertainty has left families struggling with final rites and determining when their loved ones passed away. Some families are also facing challenges accessing money belonging to their missing relatives.
