SIR in Delhi: Supreme Court says notices seem ‘mechanical’, seeks ECI’s response

The Supreme Court on Tuesday expressed concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for electoral rolls in Delhi, stating that notices seem to have been issued "mechanically" to "doubtful" voters. The bench, composed of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices V Mohana and Joymalya Bagchi, heard a petition by activists Anjali Bhardwaj and Amrita Johri.

They criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) for failing to adequately disclose the names deleted from the electoral roll and sought additional filters to refine the process. The bench also questioned the necessity of asking voters to clarify their voting address, as some notices might require individuals to choose between their current or previous residence.
