Sifuna’s new party set for reveal as 11-day countdown begins

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's political faction, Linda Mwananchi, is set to reveal its new party for the 2027 presidential race, as an 11-day countdown begins. Linda Mwananchi member Pauline Njoroge announced the imminent unveiling, stating that Sifuna is fully prepared for the next phase of his political journey, saying, "Very very soon, the Party that we have all been waiting for will be unveiled!

The announcement comes as the movement intensifies efforts to construct a political platform around Sifuna, who has expressed his intention to run for president in the upcoming General Election. In July, Linda Mwananchi leaders endorsed Sifuna as their preferred presidential candidate, with the unveiling of the party to follow.

However, the party question has been complicated by a dispute over the name "The Mwananchi Party," which was allowed by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal in August, pending the outcome of an appeal. Additionally, Sifuna is searching for a new political vehicle after his falling out with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), with the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) rejecting a proposal by the United Democratic Party (UDP) to change its name to Ukombozi People's Party (UPP), due to its similarity to another political outfit.

The dispute over the Ukombozi name has further complicated the situation, as Azimio la Umoja has rebranded itself as The Ukombozi Alliance, creating another political identity with the Ukombozi name.
