Sheikh Mohammed performs funeral prayer for Sheikh Ahmed in Dubai

Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, conducted the funeral prayer for his brother Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid on Tuesday at the Zabeel Grand Mosque. Accompanied by Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed and First Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, the ceremony was attended by sheikhs, senior officials, and a large congregation of worshippers.

Condolences for the late Sheikh Ahmed, who passed away on Monday, will be accepted at the Zabeel Majlis for three days, starting at 4pm on Tuesday and concluding at the maghrib prayer. Additionally, condolences will be accepted on Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 10am until the dhuhr prayer, and in the evening after the asr prayer until the maghrib prayer.

The period of mourning in Dubai has been declared for ten days, with warm tributes pouring in from leaders across the Emirates and around the world. In a heartfelt message on X, Sheikh Mohammed expressed that Sheikh Ahmed was not absent from their eyes but present in their prayers and hearts. He further stated that Sheikh Ahmed had made significant contributions to the UAE's development since its establishment.

"May God rest his soul in eternal peace and mercy, and grant his loved ones comfort during this difficult time," Sheikh Mohammed wrote on social media.

Leaders from the Gulf and beyond, including Bahrain's King Hamad, Sultan Haitham of Oman, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extended their best wishes to Sheikh Mohammed during this challenging period. Sheikh Ahmed was not only the deputy chairman of Dubai Police but also the group chairman of ARM Holding, a UAE private investment firm.

He was a staunch supporter of sports in the Emirates, having established the Jebel Ali Racecourse in 1990 and guiding Al Wasl Sports Club to major success over several decades as its president.
