Sharjeel assails MQM leadership for using ‘objectionable’ language

Karachi has been the scene of a senior Sindh minister's stern rebuke aimed at the MQM leadership. Sharjeel Inam Memon, who holds the positions of Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, has declared the language employed by MQM leaders to be wholly unacceptable. He alleged that MQM's goal is to stir discord and chaos, reminiscent of the political strife of the 1990s.

Memon vowed that this conspiracy would be stopped in its tracks. In response to an MQM press conference, the minister remarked that Mustafa Kamal and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui are reverting to the political tactics of the 1990s. He pointed out that it was the MQM that first embraced extortion, bodies found in sacks, kidnapping for ransom, and arson in Karachi.

Memon stated that the Sindh Assembly has already made its stance clear through a formal resolution on the provinces' issue. He accused MQM of spreading hatred by inciting discord and strife, noting that the majority of Urdu speakers consider themselves Sindhis. Memon said that MQM is once again exacerbating the divide and hatred based on language.

He remarked that the MQM, which labels the government "artificial," should first demonstrate its own mandate. He added that people chuckle whenever MQM talks about a mandate, as everyone is aware of the party's genuine level of support. Memon noted that had MQM truly had a majority, it would not have avoided the local government elections.
