Sánchez pide ahora respuestas a Marruecos por Ceuta: "Su control de fronteras falló"

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for the first time during his visit to the UN General Assembly in New York has pointed out Morocco's responsibility in the massive illegal entry crisis from Ceuta. The 80,000 migrants who crossed the border in just 48 hours at the end of July were primarily from Morocco. Sánchez, who had previously praised the good relations with Morocco, revealed that he has requested answers and actions from the Moroccan government as their border control mechanism has clearly failed.

He emphasized that Ceuta and Melilla, autonomous cities in North Africa, are not only Spain's southern border but also the European Union's. Sánchez lamented that Spain did not receive support from neighboring countries during this crisis, similar to how he defended Denmark's sovereignty over Greenland when Donald Trump threatened to take it by force, or the overwhelming influx of immigrants to the Italian island of Lampedusa.

He reiterated the need to respect the human dignity of nearly 10,000 migrants still in Ceuta out of the 80,000 who crossed the border in just 48 hours. Sánchez had previously pointed out a lack of evidence linking the Moroccan government to the human wave that overwhelmed Ceuta this summer, promising to be firm if evidence emerged.

He made these clarifications about the incident in the United States, where images of the Ceuta crisis dominated the front pages of major newspapers and news outlets. President Donald Trump directly blamed Sánchez's government's mismanagement for the catastrophe, asserting that in his country, the same would happen if the Democrats came to power.
