Sánchez garantiza a Delcy Rodríguez el compromiso de España con Venezuela

Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez visited the United Nations General Assembly in New York to request Spanish President Pedro Sánchez to maintain dialogue about Venezuela's future. The General Assembly, held annually in New York, brings together world leaders and is a global hub for high-level diplomacy. Taking advantage of this setting, Rodríguez addressed Sánchez, urging him to keep conversations about Venezuela's future.

Sánchez, who had just concluded a call, expressed Spain's commitment to Venezuela's future and indicated openness to facilitating such dialogue, according to sources from Moncloa. For now, however, there is no plan for a bilateral meeting between the two leaders during the global leaders' summit, as Sánchez plans to meet with leaders of the UK, Lebanon, Namibia, and Panama.

The conversation between Sánchez and Rodríguez marks their first public meeting since the United States intervened in Venezuela in January to remove President Nicolás Maduro, who remains imprisoned in a Brooklyn jail awaiting trial. Since then, Spain's president has held two telephone conversations with his Venezuelan counterpart, advocating for a peaceful, democratic, and joint agenda beneficial to both countries.

The most recent one was on June 25 following severe earthquakes in Venezuela, where Sánchez offered Spain's assistance, condolences to the victims, and solidarity with the Venezuelan people. Rodríguez may travel to Spain next November for the Ibero-American Summit, held in Madrid on November 4 and 5, an invitation she received while serving as Maduro's vice president despite EU sanctions against her.
