REDD+ initiative: World Bank provides $1.7m for education, health projects in Asunafo and Asutifi

The World Bank, under the REDD+ initiative, has allocated $1.7 million to fund development projects in the education and health sectors within the Asunafo and Asutifi districts of the Ahafo Region. These funds will be used to enhance living conditions in communities situated in cocoa-growing areas by constructing and upgrading classroom blocks, health facilities, water systems, and other necessary infrastructure.

During an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Acherensua, Obengkrom, Mim, and other communities, Daniel Amponsah Gyinayeh, the Chairman of REDD+ for the Asunafo and Asutifi districts, expressed satisfaction with the contractors' performance and highlighted the imminent benefits of the completed projects. In Acherensua, the Presbyterian Primary School will receive a fully furnished classroom block, while the Acherensua Senior High School will benefit from a water system to address existing water challenges.

School officials welcomed the intervention, stating that these projects will significantly improve the teaching and learning environment and tackle various school-related issues. The REDD+ initiative aims to continue supporting development projects in beneficiary communities, contributing to increased livelihoods and access to essential services in cocoa-producing regions.
