Rawalpindi Schools Face Action Over Poor Class 9 Results

The District Education Authority (DEA) in Rawalpindi has taken action against 160 schools and 40 others for dismal performance in the 2026 9th class exams, according to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi. The overall pass rate for the exams was a mere 37.56 percent, with 121,739 candidates sitting for the test.

Of these, 45,724 students passed while 76,015 failed. DEA Chief Executive Officer Yaseen Khan Baloch revealed that 160 schools had pass rates around 20 percent, while 40 schools managed to produce no successful candidates. He further stated that the teachers from the 40 schools with zero results have been suspended under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act.

In response to the poor performance, DEA has initiated training sessions for teachers to enhance students’ preparation for future 9th grade exams. Assistant commissioners have been appointed by the deputy commissioner to oversee the schools, with special focus on 9th and 10th grade students. Baloch personally visited 10 schools over the past two days to assess teaching standards and ensure students are receiving proper education.

He also announced the commencement of teacher training sessions since the start of the new academic session, aimed at elevating education standards in government schools.
