Pope Leo urges responsible AI development to promote peace

Pope Leo XIV has emphasized the need for responsible artificial intelligence (AI) development during the first AI4Peace Global Biennial Symposium and International Conference in Rome. Speaking through his representative Fr. Andrea Ciucci, the Pope highlighted that technological progress should be guided by human values and used to promote peace amid global conflict and division.

He stressed that AI development should transcend technical expertise and be characterized by "wisdom and charity," aiming to uphold human dignity and strengthen the bonds that unite humanity.

The Pope urged attendees to consider how AI could contribute to peacebuilding and address conflicts, highlighting its potential to foster dialogue, reconciliation, and solidarity. The inaugural AI4Peace symposium, held from September 20 to 22, convened experts to explore the opportunities and challenges of AI in areas such as conflict prevention, human rights, and global governance.
