Police vehicle enters Najib’s home amid house detention uncertainty

Yesterday, a Royal Malaysia Police vehicle entered the residence of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Kuala Lumpur, amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the commencement of his house detention. The vehicle, believed to contain General Operations Force officers, was spotted near the front gate, which is expected to be Najib's place of confinement under the royal pardon.

This incident has drawn significant media attention to the property, following Najib's conditional house detention granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Friday. As of 3pm today, journalists remained present outside the property. According to Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, Najib's transition to home confinement has been ongoing for five days as of Tuesday, with no indication of leaving Kajang Prison despite the mandatory RM50 million court fine remaining unpaid.

Mohd Dusuki confirmed that no financial settlement related to the fine has been made so far, and that the Malaysian Prisons Department is anticipated to release Standard Operating Procedures regarding the execution of Najib's house arrest. These procedures will detail the specifics of visitation rights, security protocols, and movement monitoring.

Najib, 73, has been held at Kajang Prison since 23 August 2022 following his conviction for misappropriating funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd, while related proceedings in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case are still pending. As part of the conditional pardon granted by Sultan Ibrahim during a 64th Federal Territories Pardons Board meeting, Najib was allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028, provided he complies with all administrative and financial requirements.

The police vehicle's arrival signals heightened preparations at the residence, although there is no confirmation that Najib has been transferred from Kajang Prison.
