Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO & Traffic Police Show Wide Gap In Enforcement Data For Tinted Films & Fancy Plates

A striking disparity has emerged between the enforcement data reported by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate's Traffic Branch, with particular focus on tinted glass and fancy number plates. The RTO conducted a 15-day special drive from September 1 to 15, booking 395 vehicles and recovering ₹8.09 lakh in fines.

In contrast, the Traffic Police recorded 5,72,018 vehicles booked and collected ₹63.78 crore in fines between January 1 and September 16. The two datasets cover different time periods and types of enforcement, with the RTO focusing on specific violations and the Traffic Police carrying out ongoing daily enforcement. While the overall enforcement gap is notable, it becomes even more pronounced when comparing similar violations over the same timeframe.

For instance, the RTO targeted 16 vehicles with unauthorized tinted or black films, whereas the Traffic Police recorded 1,605 vehicles with the same violations in the broader period. Similarly, the RTO booked 59 vehicles for fancy or unauthorized number plates, compared to the Traffic Police's 3,130 vehicles. These discrepancies raise questions about the scope and intensity of enforcement efforts by the two departments.
