Perkeso keluar 25,011 notis kompaun RM15 juta kepada majikan ingkar

Perkeso, the Malaysian Social Security Organization, has issued 25,011 notices totaling RM15 million to employers who fail to register their companies and employees for the past several years, according to a report by Harian Metro. The latest initiative, Op Kesan 2.0, targets the informal sector, particularly three mandatory sectors: e-hailing, ride-hailing, and independent contractors. These sectors must comply with the Self-Employment Workers' Social Security Act (Akta 789) and the Gig Workers' Scheme (Akta 872).

Out of the 25,011 notices, 21,177 have been taken to court due to various violations under social security laws. Azirruan Arifin, Deputy Executive Director of Operations at Perkeso, revealed that the operation involved more than 300 officials from 54 Perkeso offices nationwide. The primary focus of this operation is on employers, e-hailing and ride-hailing platform providers, and independent contractors who must register and report regularly under the Self-Employment Workers' Social Security Scheme.

Since the launch of Op Kesan 2.0 in July, Perkeso has conducted 8,049 inspections and issued 2,162 notices of penalty. Majistrates have been instructed to warn employers that do not comply, and impose penalties as required. As of September 7, 1.17 million gig workers have already registered with Perkeso.
