Palghar: VVMC Faces Questions Over Delay In Action Against Unauthorized Sheet Sheds Despite Bombay HC Order

Vasai, September 22, 2026: Unauthorized sheet sheds constructed on the premises of the Sigmon Splendor building have been a source of concern for residents in Madhuban Township, Vasai East. Despite repeated complaints and directions from the High Court to remove these unauthorized structures, the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) has reportedly been slow to act.

Complainant Rahul Rajan had taken the matter to the municipal corporation, with the High Court also intervening to direct the civic authorities to remove the structures. However, the lack of action has raised questions about the functioning of the municipal administration. The Sigmon Splendor building is situated in Madhuban Township, and it is alleged that residents have constructed sheet sheds around the building.

While notices were issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act in March 2023 against around 30–40 flat owners and shop/space holders, the administration failed to take further action after the notices were issued. The complainant, Rahul Rajan, subsequently approached the Bombay High Court, which in April 2025 directed the municipal corporation to take immediate action in accordance with the MRTP notices.

VVMC Additional Commissioner Deepak Sawant stated that a complaint regarding the unauthorized sheet sheds had been received by the municipal corporation, with preliminary action having been taken. However, officials were currently busy with Special Infrastructure Rehabilitation (SIR) related work, making it difficult to initiate further action. Sawant added that action would be taken within the next one to two months.
