North Korea touts new weapons system described as hypersonic

North Korea successfully tested a new weapon on Sunday, showcasing advanced defense technology, according to state media. Leader Kim Jong Un praised the progress in strengthening the country's war readiness. The Missile Administration conducted the test, demonstrating significant development in the armed forces' fighting capability.

Kim stated that the enemy will suffer an incurable headache and face a cruel, unavoidable blow due to this progress. The type of weapon tested was not specified in the report. Kim inspected a screen displaying a map of North Korea's east coast and the flight trajectory of Hwasongpho-11-ma-1, likely an upgraded variant of a missile equipped with a hypersonic glide vehicle.

This type of missile allows the warhead to maneuver and potentially be launched partially into orbit. South Korean military reported firing two short-range ballistic missiles off its east coast, coinciding with North Korea's accusation of US-led military drills raising tensions on the Korean Peninsula. US, South Korea, and Japan's foreign ministers met to coordinate on peace, stability, and denuclearization.
