NMDPRA threatens licence revocation for petrol stations under-dispensing products

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has uncovered instances of under-dispensing of petroleum products at retail outlets across Nigeria, leading to the regulator ordering immediate checks and calibration of fuel dispensers nationwide. The NMDPRA emphasized that the practice is a severe breach of consumer trust and warned that outlets found under-dispensing petroleum products risk sanctions, including licence revocation.

The regulator detailed the directive in an industry circular issued in Abuja and shared on its official X handle. The NMDPRA stated that consumers must receive the exact quantity of petroleum products for which they paid, and it directed all retail outlet operators to verify and calibrate their dispensing equipment to guarantee accurate measurement.

The Authority warned that they have intensified inspections and enforcement nationwide and will take action against stations found to be short-changing consumers. Persistent or serious violations of the regulation could result in the withdrawal of operating licences.
