Nest Doorbell has been triggering Gemini’s American accent, no matter what language you speak; fix coming

Google Home is experiencing a peculiar bug that causes the Nest Doorbell notifications to be announced in an American accent, regardless of the user's language or dialect preferences. One user on Reddit reported that Gemini responds to their Nest Doorbell in an American accent, even though they are French, speak French, and reside in France.

This issue is not limited to a single user or device; a commenter in the Netherlands and another in the UK experienced the same problem. The user in the Netherlands mentioned that their Bosch washing machine alerts default to US English instead of Dutch. While most interactions with Gemini happen in the language of choice, certain appliances bring out a different Gemini voice entirely.

An official Google account stated that the issue is being addressed, but a fix has not been rolled out yet. It is expected that Gemini will stop responding in its American accent soon, unless the user specifically wants that accent. The bug may have been developed after the September Google Home update with changes to Gemini for Home.

Spoken notifications seem to function as intended, but Gemini seemingly chooses to provide context in an American accent rather than the language or accent set in preferences. The only change noted in the update refers to Gemini's improved follow-up question behavior. Google is aware of the issue and is working on a solution.
