National Liberal Party objects to purported rebranding of Azimio

The National Liberal Party (NLP), a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, has formally objected to the decision to rebrand and/or restructure the coalition as the “Ukombozi Alliance.” The NLP is worried they were not consulted about this significant change and have not been given documents showing the decision was made through the right channels.

The NLP has tried to talk to the coalition leadership before, but has not received a detailed response. The NLP is worried the change might not follow the rules set out in the Coalition Agreement, the Political Parties Act, and other governing documents. It should involve the right procedures and consider the rights of the parties affected.

The NLP has written to the coalition leadership and the Registrar of Political Parties, requesting details about the decision-making process. They are concerned about the financial, contractual, and legal impacts of the change. The NLP is clear they do not agree with, or recognize, the rebranding unless the Coalition Agreement and relevant laws are followed.

They remain committed to lawful cooperation, but this must be based on transparency, good faith, consultation, adherence to agreed procedures, and respect for all parties' rights.
