Mumbai FDA Action: Licences Of 5 Food Establishments Suspended; ₹15.15 Lakh Adulterated Ghee Stock Seized

On September 22, 2026, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Mumbai took stringent action against five food establishments, suspending their licences and seizing adulterated goods. This move comes after inspections revealed severe violations of food safety and hygiene norms.

BJRS (Gallops) Restaurant, situated inside the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, had its licence suspended following the discovery of blood and ketchup stains on ice from non-vegetarian items, raw materials stored in damaged packaging, grease accumulation, and pest infestations. The establishment also lacked records of annual medical examinations and vaccinations for food handlers.

At Dreamer Hospitality Pvt Ltd in Bandra West, the FDA found similar hygiene violations, leading to the suspension of its licence. Further legal action is being taken against the establishment. Mirari, located on St Dominic Road, Bandra West, was also suspended after inspectors found violations under Schedule 4 of the food safety regulations. Legal proceedings have been initiated.

Versova Eatery, operating without a valid licence, was ordered to shut down due to improper food storage, inadequate cleanliness, pest control deficiencies, and issues with water testing. The establishment was directed to cease operations until it obtains a valid licence and addresses the deficiencies.

The most significant seizure occurred at Gurukrupa Dairy Products in Malad East, where FDA officials found adulterated ghee mixed with refined sunflower oil, vanaspati, and branded ghee. The products, sold under the name “Pooja Ghee,” were seized along with two boilers and a khoya-making machine, valued at around Rs 15.15 lakh. The FDA emphasized that strict action would continue against establishments operating in unsafe and unhygienic conditions.
