Miti tak dimaklum mansuh syarat ekuiti Bumiputera untuk pusat tuisyen

Miti, the Malaysian Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, expressed hope that the clarification would help clarify their role in the matter to ensure accurate and clear information is provided to the public. The ministry stated that it does not have information regarding the Education Ministry's decision to reduce the Bumiputera equity requirement to at least 30% for private education institutions.

KPM declared the decision following discussions with Miti. According to KPM, the decision was made to meet sectoral needs and ensure that educational participation space remains open to all parties interested in contributing to national education development. However, Miti clarified in a statement that the matter of Bumiputera equity ownership lies within the purview of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The ministry hopes this clarification will help remedy their role in the incident to ensure the public receives accurate and clear information. The issue emerged early this week following Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung's revelation of KPM guidelines allegedly mandating private tuition centers to have a 30% Bumiputera ownership stake for license renewal next year.

Parents' Action for Better Education in Melaka (PABME) questioned the requirement to burden businesses that have operated for decades to relinquish 30% of their ownership to continue operations. Independent scholar Sharifah Munirah Alatas argued that the basis risks creating communal sentiments in the education sector and may not necessarily encourage strong Bumiputera entrepreneurship.
