Michael Kelly on the bond he built with Dubai while filming Jack Ryan: Ghost War

Michael Kelly, who portrayed CIA veteran Mike November in the film Jack Ryan: Ghost War, had always envisioned a moment to be like Tom Cruise's in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol while scaling Dubai's Burj Khalifa. Upon arriving in Dubai while filming, he discovered that his fear was more pronounced than anticipated. Standing outside a skyscraper 40 storeys above the ground, Kelly felt uneasy as he prepared to perform a stunt.

It wasn't until his co-ordinator allowed him to let go of the railings that he realized he had unconsciously gripped them the entire time. The experience was a rehearsal for his character's scene, where he had to walk out from the building towards a crane. Despite initial reservations, Kelly found the experience enjoyable and embraced the opportunity to portray his character in a new light.

Upon returning to Dubai, Kelly was welcomed with open arms, appreciating the hospitality and convenience of the city. He formed connections with locals and other cast members, finding the experience both enjoyable and educational. Kelly's character development in Jack Ryan has also been influenced by his bond with co-star John Krasinski, leading to more opportunities for humor and character growth.

The possibility of a spin-off for November remains a possibility, as Kelly expresses his desire to continue working with the cast.
