Melaka assembly to dissolve tomorrow, paving way for state election

Melaka, Sept 22 — Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh has assured that the affairs of the Melaka state government will continue to operate normally despite the dissolution of the state assembly on September 23. He stated that the administration, public service delivery, welfare, security, and daily governance will proceed as usual. "Following this dissolution, the state government will take on the role of caretaker until a new administration is formed post-election," he explained.

Ab Rauf made these remarks during a press conference at the Seri Negeri Auditorium, where he announced the assembly's dissolution. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining order, uninterrupted services, and safeguarding the people's interests during this interim period. Ab Rauf declined to disclose whether existing BN and cooperation party candidates would participate in the upcoming state elections, stating he would reveal his decision later after thorough consideration.

The last state assembly election was held on November 20, 2021, after four government supporters withdrew their support from former Chief Minister Sulaiman Md Ali in October 2021. BN won 21 seats in that election, forming a government with a two-thirds majority. Following the dissolution, BN retains a majority in the assembly with 20 seats, which will not impact the government's administration.
