Malay reserve land in Selangor increased to 403,391 acres, says MB

Selangor's Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari announced that Malay reserve land in the state has expanded to 403,391 acres, roughly equivalent to 229,000 football fields, since 2018. During a recent statement, he noted that this increase occurred from a previous total of 400,711 acres. The statement comes in response to questions surrounding the fate of a 55.401-acre plot in Sabak Bernam, which was reportedly degazetted for development under the Sabak Bernam Development Area.

This degazettement was made according to a gazette released on September 3rd, which stirred concerns. However, to compensate for this loss, another 55.401 acres in Hulu Selangor were designated as Malay reserve land. The Sabak Bernam Development Area, a state-led initiative, aims at enhancing food security and promoting agrotourism along the west coast of Selangor.

The project, spearheaded by the Menteri Besar's office and involving local communities like fishermen and entrepreneurs, as well as academics, continues to be a subject of discussion.
