The majority of the country is expected to be drier than average or close to average when it comes to precipitation. Natasha Ramsahai, CityNews Chief Meteorologist, warned that a prolonged period of dryness could have significant implications for spring and summer weather, particularly in terms of wildfire season.

Southern Ontario is forecasted to be warmer and drier than usual, although slight moisture may fall around Lake Erie and southwestern Ontario. The region could face impacts on ice wine and maple syrup production due to reduced snowmelt and dry soil conditions. Warmer temperatures and the lack of snow could also affect winter recreational sports, ice hockey on the Great Lakes, and the overall health of the lakes' ecosystems.

Super El Niño conditions, characterized by above-average sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, are believed to be a major driver of the warmer fall weather. The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) are also at play, potentially amplifying or mitigating the effects of El Niño. While the forecast provides a general idea of what to expect, Ramsahai cautioned that seasonal outlooks are not meant for day-to-day forecasting and that various unpredictable factors may still influence the actual weather patterns.
