Macron walks through busy New York streets to Trump Tower

Former President Donald Trump expressed optimism about New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani's potential for success during a recent meeting at the mayor's official residence. The two men, who had previously clashed politically, engaged in a one-hour discussion about immigration enforcement and a proposed 12,000-home housing project. Trump, a Republican, had previously labeled Mamdani as "my little communist" and a "total nut job" when he first took office in January.

However, the two have since developed a surprisingly amicable relationship. Trump told Mamdani, "Hopefully, you're going to be a great mayor. I'll be able to say you're going to be a great one, and you're off to a start," adding, "I want what's good for New York, I want what's good for the country. So if I had a choice of having him be a bad mayor or horrible mayor, I don't want that.

I want him to be a great mayor." Mamdani, 34, appreciated Trump's commitment to the city and shared his views on keeping New Yorkers safe. The pair also discussed the proposed housing project, which would require $21 billion in federal funding. Despite acknowledging they have "many disagreements," Mamdani plans to continue cooperating with Trump, emphasizing the importance of engaging with all members of the press, regardless of their opinions.
