Macron - Trump discuss ‘constructive’ energy strike moratorium in Ukraine-Russia war

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed a potential energy infrastructure moratorium with US President Donald Trump during a meeting ahead of the United Nations General Assembly’s high-level week. The discussions primarily focused on strengthening Ukraine's defenses and efforts to reduce attacks affecting the energy sector. Macron emphasized the importance of interceptors to bolster Ukraine's defensive capabilities.

Both leaders also spoke about the situation in the Red Sea, an important oil shipping route, and its impact on global prices. The meeting was described as highly constructive by Macron, who noted President Trump's willingness to engage in detailed discussions about both conflicts. Macron traveled to New York from the French territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, where he had already met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He was scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy later that day.
