Linke-Wahlsieg: Israels Botschafter: Jüdisches Leben in Berlin in Gefahr

Israel's Ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, warned that the left-wing victory in Berlin's recent elections poses an "immediate existential threat" to the city's Jewish community. Speaking to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Prosor expressed concern about the left party's strong showing in the Berlin election and the rise of a party with "completely detached antisemitism" to the top of the political hierarchy.

For the Jewish community in Berlin, he said, what was once just a "theoretical threat" has now become a "concrete and immediate existential threat."

The left party, led by candidate Elif Eralp, won the Berlin state parliament election with a large margin, potentially making her the first female and first left-wing mayor of Berlin. The Berlin state party, or at least parts of it, has repeatedly faced criticism for their positions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and antisemitism.

Germany's Central Council of Jews, Josef Schuster, had already accused the left party of repeatedly crossing "antisemitic lines" during the election campaign. Prosor accused the left party of repeatedly crossing new "red lines" and noted that antisemitism is no longer just an isolated incident but a deeply entrenched and widespread issue.

Prosor called for the left party to present a concrete plan on how to stop and root out "systematic hatred of Israel and Jews" within its ranks. He said that the time of empty promises must end and that decisive action with verifiable results is now essential.
